Duns Scotus and the Univocity of Being

Abstract
The goal of this paper is to understand Scotus’ notion of univocity between God’s being and the created being. Scotus’ teaching is a significant break from the intellectual tradition that deemed the rift between God and the rest of the creation. Thomas Aquinas represents the height of the tradition. But because of the condemnation of 1277, which affirmed God’s potentia absoluta, theologians were required to rethink the relationship of the being between God and creature. Scotus’ project is a response to the condemnation as well as a way to open new possibilities in theological discourses.
